Sermon on the Mount: Mercy

7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” ~Matthew 5

We are all the same

We are all to blame

Sin is swirling all around us

Full of blackened hearts

But God sent His Son

To die on the tree

Rose up on the third day

To forgive you and me

And when you’re to blame

I want to fill you with shame

Point out the wrong within you

Your blackened heart

But God sent His Son

To die on the tree

If I can’t forgive you

He won’t forgive me

God’s always the same

He took away the shame

There’s no favoritism for any of us

He washed our hearts clean

God sent His Son

The Spirit to make us free

We can now walk in His footsteps

Have mercy

8If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”a you are doing right. 9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”b also said, “You shall not murder.”c If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

12Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” ~James 2

James 3:17
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Luke 6:37
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

One of my favorite bands singing about mercy
