Meditation: Adopted Into Life

1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going.”

5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” ~John 14

There are days that I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing with my life or where I’m supposed to go, days of feeling like it’s just me and the world and no one is around to help me get to my goal—and I’m not even sure what my goal is.

But the bible is full of verses that talk about perseverance and keeping our eyes set on the prize, keeping our minds on Heaven. Even Jesus Himself told His disciples this. Our belief in Him is our confidence that He has prepared a place for us, a place with no tears, pain, uncertainty and most of all no sin, a place that we can live with Him for all eternity. It is because of our relationship with Jesus that we have this glorious inheritance, for we are now adopted into the Holy Family!

“1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.” ~Colossians 3

From this passage it seems clear that not only are we to know Christ but we are to even find our very identity in Him. He died, therefore we died. He was raised, we are raised. He will be glorified, we will be glorified. He is supposed to permeate our entire life—He IS our entire lives! And it is because of this we are supposed to put our focus on the place where He is, in Heaven.

Because we died with Him we are to constantly be putting to death our sinful desires. Where our entire lives are focused on our Savior, His entire life is focused on glorifying the Father, and therefore so is ours. And being obedient to Him in every way honors the Father, the Son, and therefore also the Holy Spirit. And why do we care about what they think? Because He is our life! God gave us eternal life and will give it to us at the end of all things!

I hope very much that you are encouraged today to think on Heaven with me. How awesome it is that God lay down His life that we might be adopted into such a glorious inheritance, to join Him in Holiness!

Sermon on the Mount: God’s Holiness in Prayer

9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ ~Matthew 6

You ought to pray

Every day

You ought to say

‘Father, hollowed be Your name!’

And when you offer up

These words of praise

These words of longing

Live it out in your own life

Live out the glory of Christ

Oh, LORD, may You holy name be

Considered holy

Today.

.

When you pray

Today

Remember the holiness of the LORD

How great His works

How mighty His wonders!

Remember the holiness of the LORD

Today

When you pray

.

The LORD

He will be honored

The LORD

He will be glorified

Let not

Your words turn to slander

Let not

Your mind be seared

Offer up what is pleasing

Lest the LORD be driven to defend

His honor

Offer up in your heart what is pleasing

Lest it drive unbelievers to profanity

Let it not be said of us

Let it not be said of us

.

Who is like the LORD?

Who can compare to His faithfulness?

Every promise He ever made

He has kept.

His honor He will defend

His love He lavishes on us.

His kingdom lasts forever

As He is not shaken

Neither shall we be then.

.

When you pray

Today

Remember the holiness of the LORD

How great His works

The LORD

He will be honored

The LORD

He will be glorified

How mighty His wonders!

Remember the holiness of the LORD

Today

Consider Him holy

The LORD, His name be

So live out the glory of Christ His Son!

Live it out in your own life

These words of longing

These words of praise

‘Father, hallowed be Your name!”

You ought to say it

Every day

You ought to pray

.

“6For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, 7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? 8 O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you?” ~Psalm 89

“17Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; 18if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ~Romans 2

Matthew 23:9

“And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.”

“1Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. 2So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. 3Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said:“ ‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’ ” Aaron remained silent.” ~Leviticus 10

James 4:11

“Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.”

Psalm 101:5

“Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.”

“28Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.” ~Hebrews 12

Sermon on the Mount: Pure Heart

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” ~Matthew 5

Who can stand

In His presence?

Who will ascend

To His throne?

The one who’s heart is pure

The one who’s feet are secure

On the solid rock

To which he clings

On the salvation of the Lord

The salvation of the Lord

.

Who can stand

In His presence?

Who can look

At His face?

The one who is at peace

The one who is holy

As his King is Holy

Holy is the salvation of the Lord

The salvation of the Lord

.

The salvation of the Lord

I cling to the salvation of the Lord

So create in me a pure heart

And grant the way of peace

That I may look on Your face

That I may stand before Your throne

That I may stand secure

On this solid rock

The salvation of the Lord

The salvation of the Lord

.

3Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?  Who may stand in his holy place?  4The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.  5They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.  6Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.” ~Psalm 24

Hebrews 12:14
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

10Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  11Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  12Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” ~Psalm 51

Be Humble

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud

but shows favor to the humble.”a

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.” ~1 Peter 5:5b-11

Life

Isn’t about fame

It isn’t about fortune

Or getting love

My father and mother

Told me to share

To give

But as I get older

I’m needing more

I’m wanting more

And all the more I hear

The world around me

Say “It’s okay

To be selfish”

But when you try

You get punished

.

Lift your eyes

To sky

Fall down

On your knees

Humbleness

Is what pleases

The LORD

Stop listening to what

Surrounds you

Stop gripping at the knives

Inside you

And seek ye first

The kingdom

Of righteousness

Of the King

Of bliss

Of the King

Of truth

.

It’s true

I’m needy

But I can’t fill it

With what surrounds me

These games never end

These kisses never

Burn enough

And the fears that plague me

Never stop

Choking me

I try to run away and hide

But all I see is

Emptiness inside

And out

.

The LORD

He is your shield

The LORD

He is your strength

He knows you need

And He satisfies

He knows your heart

And He sanctifies

Be Holy

As He is

And bow down your heart

To the King

.

Hope in the Light

Of the Savior

He is the Light

He is salvation

Seek His Light

Do not fear the darkness

Oh LORD be our light

Save us from the darkness

Lord to You I surrender

Oh surrender

To the King

.

“33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~Matthew 6

“5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” ~1 John 1

Loving Father

“38But you have rejected, you have spurned,

you have been very angry with your anointed one.

39You have renounced the covenant with your servant

and have defiled his crown in the dust.

40You have broken through all his walls

and reduced his strongholds to ruins.

41All who pass by have plundered him;

he has become the scorn of his neighbors.

42You have exalted the right hand of his foes;

you have made all his enemies rejoice.

43Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword

and have not supported him in battle.

44You have put an end to his splendor

and cast his throne to the ground.

45You have cut short the days of his youth;

you have covered him with a mantle of shame.

46How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?

How long will your wrath burn like fire?

47Remember how fleeting is my life.

For what futility you have created all humanity!

48Who can live and not see death,

or who can escape the power of the grave?

49Lord, where is your former great love,

which in your faithfulness you swore to David?

50Remember, Lord, how your servant hasg been mocked,

how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,

51the taunts with which your enemies, Lord, have mocked,

with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.

52Praise be to the Lord forever!

Amen and Amen.”  ~Psalm 89

It seems that the Lord

He has forgotten His promises

On me He has bestowed

All the injustices of the world

I could be angry

I could hate my God

Or I could open my eyes and see

The goodness of the Lord

I do not understand

I know I sin and am not perfect

But all the time I hear

The promises of God

But I do not see them

Are they not for me and my house?

Am I rejected?

Am I forgotten or unloved?

I could be angry

Or I could open my eyes

And see the goodness of the Lord

I open my eyes

I acknowledge You are there

I open my heart

And acknowledge You are good

And perfect in everything

For You are far above me

I open my mouth

And cry out to You for mercy

I cry out to You

To please remember me

I know I am not nothing to You

I know You are good all the time

You know I do not understand

You know I feel rejected

You know who I am

You are not absent from my side

I could be angry

But anger towards You is always injust

And if You were angry with me

You would always be just

But in You rest

You I seek

You I praise

Despite what I see

~

“8LORD our God

you answered them;

You were to Israel a forgiving God,

though you punished their misdeeds.

9Exalt the LORD our God

and worship at his holy mountain

for the LORD our God is holy.” ~Psalm 99

“7It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” ~Hebrews 12

God is God

“14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.”

~Psalm 89

I never have to wonder
At Your Will, Oh God,
I never have to fear
That You are above all things

For You sit in Your throne
Ruling Your creation as King
And You are always completely good
No sin ever has or ever will
Mar Your beautiful face

For You sit on Your throne
Ruling Your creation as King
And You are always just in all Your ways
You are fair and zealous to do good
The wicked are punished
The good are rewarded
And You fulfill all Your vows

Without these things
You would not be God

And going before You
To adorn Your holiness
There is love that knows no bounds
There is love that knows no end
You are filled to the brim
With love for Your people
For them You have bestowed mercy
Sacrificing Yourself
To fulfill that justice be done
How great is Your love!

And going before You
To adorn Your holiness
There is faithfulness that knows no end
There is faithfulness that never fades away
To deny a promise is to deny Yourself
To deny Your beloved is to deny Yourself
You are ever faithful to Your subjects
Ever thinking of those who love You
Whom You love oh so deeply

Love was not required of You
To bestow on sinners such as us
But love You given
And You are ever faithful
Yet You are holy, ever holy
Without it You would not be God
I do not have to worry
I do not have to fear
You are a righteous,
You are a Just
You are a loving,
You are a Faithful
GOD

(Excerpts from Romans 8)

“28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”

“38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

“1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

“22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.”

“26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

“5Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

My King: The Throne Room

I sing
In the throne room
Of the King
Of my heart
Of my heart
I praise the Lord of the
Heavenly glaze
He’s a whole of a part
A whole of a part
Don’t stop to stare
The night is melting
The day is daring
To fair well
At the hands of
My King

I sing
In the throne room
Of my King
In my heart
In my heart
I praise His hand
That surrounds me
In a rainbow ring
That’s how it starts
It starts with
His mouth
And the faith He grows
I give a shout
And He works in me
In my hands I work
For my King

Don’t bury your head
Deep down in the sand
Don’t fall asleep
In the promised land
Trudge, trudge onward
There’s a mountain on fire
Full of promised surprise

Oh the glory
Oh the holiness
Oh the glory
Of His mightiness
Oh praise Him
The King of
Our souls
Oh praises to
Oh singing to
You LORD
You, King
Of my heart
In my heart

Kneeling in
The throne room
Of my King

Revelation 4:

“1After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. 4Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. 7The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. 8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“ ‘Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,’
who was, and is, and is to come.”

9Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

11“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

My Freedom: God’s Presence

Who comes
Into the presence
Of the Most Holy?
He has hands
Free of the stain
The awful drippings
Of blood
They are clean
Of malice and greed
No lie is marked
On the skin
He carries his offering
Without guilt or shame
He honors
The LORD

Who comes
Into the presence
Of the Most Holy?
He has lips
That drip honey
The fruit of the
Sweet nectar
Of wisdom
Knowledge
And truth
His tongue is free
Of any fire of sin
He can sing
Without guilt or shame
He honors
The LORD

Who comes
Into the presence
Of the Most Holy?
He is clothed
In garments pure white
That shine with the brightness
Of the Father’s face
Adorned in gold
Jewels
Majesty
He is free to stand there
Without guilt or shame
He honors
The LORD

“This is My Son
In Him I am pleased.”

“1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” ~Galatians 5:1a

“Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
5 He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah” ~Psalm 24

“1What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. 4But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” ~Galatians 4

Holy God: My Sanctification

There are days
That I feel weak,
Empty, and afraid
When this heart of gold
Begins to mold
And I’m left with
Nothing to say

I am nothing
I have nothing

There are days
When I feel weak,
Empty, and afraid
When this heart of gold
Feels so cold
In my anguish
I must pray

“Why am I this way?
Why am I nothing more?
Why am I this way?
Why have I nothing more
To show You?”

Must be refined I’m told
Til nothing black there be

He is my everything

There is pain
Around the corner,
Beyond the bend for me
This heart of gold
Must feel the heat of the coal
Shining pure for all to see

I do all for your good
Christ’s likeness you will be

“6In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” ~ 1 Peter 1

“2Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” ~James 1

“23May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5

Holy God: My Light

Be Light
In the dark place
Be Light
Don’t walk in darkness
Be Light
Though in myself I cannot
Be Light
Not at all

If I be not Light
Am I His?
Him who is Light
Through and through?
If I be not Light
Am I forgiven now?
For He is Light
He cannot abide darkness

I hope in the Light
Of my Savior
He is my Light
He is my salvation
I have His Light
I do not fear the darkness
Oh LORD be my Light
Save me from the darkness

Oh the Holiness of Light
Be Holy as He is Holy

“1The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

2When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.” ~Psalm 27
