Proverbs: Humbleness Before the Father

“6For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, 8guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. 9Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; 10for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; 11discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, 12delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, 13who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, 14who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, 15men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.” ~Proverbs 2

Seek after the Lord

For He is good in all His ways

In Him are the treasures of wisdom,

Of truth,

Of life

In Him are all good things found

Yes, and if you seek after Him

He promises to be found

And He will wrap you up in His arms

He’ll protect you,

Love you,

Watch over you

To the very end

But how indeed can He

When we do not humble our hearts

Do not submit to His ways

Do not bend our knees to our King?

Let’s submit to the Lord

Let’s humble ourselves in His sight

Let’s daily think on Him in delight

We are the children of the Lord

Adopted by the Lord

Our Father in Heaven

Let us submit to Him

Our loving Father

And let Him provide

All our needs

Let Him overshadow us

In His wings

Let Him love us

He told us

What is good—

What does the good Lord require

Of us?

To do justice

To love kindness

To walk in humility

With our God!

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” ~1 Peter 5

“’God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’

7Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” ~James 4

Luke 14:11

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Ephesians 4:31-32

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

“3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5heb predestined us for adoption to sonshipc through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” ~Ephesians 1

Sermon on the Mount: Pray Humbly

“7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’~Matthew 6

Sometimes I think

I can get a drink

From the pool of self appeasement.

Lord God I want

I want, I want

And I won’t shutup

Til I’ve received it.

Oh dance around a flame!

Cut open flesh!

Demand God a sacrifice

Of His own!

Babble all day long

Babble all you want

God doesn’t hear you.

Humble your words

Ask for His Name glorified—

Isn’t He God

And you just a man?

Humble your heart

Ask for His will be done—

Trust Him

He’ll give all you need

All seem impossible!

Starving in the street!

Will I be clothed today?

Will He hear my cries and groaning?

Open up your mouth

Cry to the LORD for mercy!

He’s your Father

He loves you so.

Look at the birds

Always seeking

Do they ever find

The worm for their bellies?

And if God is so faithful

To provide for such as these

Won’t He be pleased

To give you bread instead of stone?

Look at the flowers

Of the field

They just soak up the sun

And are beautiful

How were they clothed thus?

How could they create this?

And if the LORD clothes His small creations

How much more will He clothe you

Instead of biting you with a snake?

The LORD will send you rain

In the drought.

The LORD will send you warmth

In the cold.

The LORD will send you food

In starvation.

Seek His kingdom first

Seek His will be done.

He will grant you the peace

And understanding

Of His Spirit come.

Seek, find, knock.

He’ll not give you a rock.

Seek, find, knock.

Oh knock on the door

With a humble heart.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!… 27“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” ~Luke 12

9“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” ~Luke 11

‘22Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”

Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”…

Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.

27At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention…

36At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

38Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

39When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”’~1 Kings 18

Sermon on the Mount: Meek

“5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” ~Matthew 5

Jesus did not count Himself worthy

To be equal with God

His Father

He humbled Himself

Even to death

On the cross

Oh, meekness

Your reward is everything

The wisdom of the Lord

Is the key to this treasure

The Lord resists the proud

Casts them away

But gives grace to the humble

He teaches them

His righteous way

And hides them from His wrath

From meek

Comes more meekness

It comes from the LORD

Spirit descends

On His chosen

Makes them free from the Law

Makes them pleasing to the LORD

Jesus did not count Himself worthy

To be equal with God

His Father

The key to this treasure

Is the wisdom of the Lord

Everything is the reward

For humbleness

For meekness

Oh, on the cross

He did die

He humbled Himself

Jesus did not count Himself

Equal with God

Who are we to do it?

Inherit the earth

The proud

“5b for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.  6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” ~1 Peter 5

“5In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:  6Who, being in very naturea God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very natureb of a servant, being made in human likeness.  8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!  9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place…” ~Philippians 2

“22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, self-control: against such there is no law.  24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” ~Galatians 5

“10A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.  11But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.” ~Psalm 37

8Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.  9He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.  10All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.” ~Psalm 25

“3Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.  Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.” ~Zephaniah 2

Be Humble

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud

but shows favor to the humble.”a

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.” ~1 Peter 5:5b-11

Isn’t about fame

It isn’t about fortune

Or getting love

My father and mother

Told me to share

To give

But as I get older

I’m needing more

I’m wanting more

And all the more I hear

The world around me

Say “It’s okay

To be selfish”

But when you try

You get punished

Lift your eyes

To sky

Fall down

On your knees

Is what pleases

Stop listening to what

Surrounds you

Stop gripping at the knives

Inside you

And seek ye first

The kingdom

Of righteousness

Of the King

Of bliss

Of the King

Of truth

It’s true

I’m needy

But I can’t fill it

With what surrounds me

These games never end

These kisses never

Burn enough

And the fears that plague me

Never stop

Choking me

I try to run away and hide

But all I see is

Emptiness inside

And out

He is your shield

He is your strength

He knows you need

And He satisfies

He knows your heart

And He sanctifies

Be Holy

As He is

And bow down your heart

To the King

Hope in the Light

Of the Savior

He is the Light

He is salvation

Seek His Light

Do not fear the darkness

Oh LORD be our light

Save us from the darkness

Lord to You I surrender

Oh surrender

To the King

“33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~Matthew 6

“5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” ~1 John 1

My Meditation: Why I don’t want to pray

Prayer is beautiful. When I am lonely or sad, I know I can turn to the LORD in prayer, and when I focus on Him and all He is for me I am full joy, peace that transcends my current feelings. And when I am angry, I can confess all my burning emotions, and when I get to the end of it I find I can forgive the one who has made me feel that way. Prayer is indeed beautiful and wonderful, humbling and worshipful.

But although I know all that, there are many times when I would rather just avoid it. Usually its during the times when nothing is heavy on my heart. It’s when I know I ought to be in my daily devotional even though I’d rather just get started on my day. So I think, ‘Alright, I’ll read my bible. That doesn’t take up too much time. But praying really isn’t that necessary right now.’ Of course, I don’t actually believe this. I know prayer is talking to God, the Living God, whom I am to want to have a relationship with. I mean, we don’t talk to our family just when we feel like it and the rest of the time ignore them. But too often it is just too easy to brush off God.

I’ve been in a bible study the last few weeks on the subject of prayer, and through it I’ve realized just how much I take prayer for granted and the petitions I put into it. I really am not deep into my prayers and I really don’t focus too much on the relationship bit. And while I was in the bible study, the subject came up with how sometimes we feel too busy to pray, although we actually know prayer helps busy days. And I began to think: what if every time I didn’t feel like praying I wrote down why. For example, if I really wanted to get to a computer game as soon as possible, I would write down, “Today I don’t want to pray because I’d rather play a computer game about sharks eating people.” Or, “Today I don’t want to pray because I need to put out the garbage.” How stupid do those sound? Pretty ridiculous. And as I thought about that I wondered if writing it down would reveal to me my selfishness in a situation and lead me to prayer.

So what about you? Do you know the sweetness of prayer? Do find sometimes that you don’t want to pray? What are your reasons for not wanting to pray? I challenge you to look at those reasons and truly realize if they are legitimate reasons. Most of the time they won’t be. Even if the thing you want to do is a good thing, wouldn’t you want to pray about it so that God is with you, helping you, and blessing you as you do it? You should still make time to talk to God who longs to have a relationship with you. He loves you so much He wants to hear you talk and to talk to you.

Jesus example
“35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” ~Mark 1

“15Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” ~Luke 5

Jesus Words

‘5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

14For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.’ ~Matthew 6

God’s Will

“16Rejoice always, 17pray continually, 18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” ~1 Thessalonians 5

My Spot

A spot
On my pure
White skin
And I shiver
It cannot be
But soon all
Feeling escapes
I am a king
I’ve seen God’s
And yearned to
Walk closely
By His side
I am a king
My devotion is
And I deserve
To praise Him
I have no
Need for the
Standing between
But the priests
Are so prideful
Tell me I sin
But I am King!
I will win!
I hold the
Censer in one
And an angry
Fist in the
Defending my
Own purity
I am
And there’s
The spot
Darkening my
I am contaminating
The temple
Of my LORD
And I know
I do wrong
I am hidden
No longer worthy
To worship Him
No matter how
Much I weep
He does not heal
And who am
I to argue
He is my LORD
He is my King
All I can do
Now is
That unfeeling
Ravages and ruins
In the name of peace
No pain
No suffering
Yet still I bleed
Yet still I seem
To die
And be at war
There is no hope
Of healing
I was thought
Noble and good
My only flaw
A terrible
Disease that
Can dangerously
Spread it’s unfeelingness
So though I am
Honored and loved
Please don’t
Come near me
But listen to
This new voice
It speaks of hope
Hope for me
So I set out
For the man of
Hoping for
The miracle
But I see
Him not
He will not
See me
He sends out
A messenger
Who does not
Wave his hands
Over my
He tells me to wash
One, two, three
Four, five, six
Seven times
In the dirty
Why not wash
In a cleaner
Body of water?
But the voice
Speaks again
Is not this
God’s man
Has he not spoke
To you
Words of hope
In God’s hands?
Get down on
Hands and knees
Dive in deep to
The filth
One, two, three
Four, five, six
God healed
What joy now!
I am free!
I will bend
To Him only
The knee!
You and I
We’re blinded
What is it
That consumes
Removes us
Free the tree?
I am filled
With gluttony
To me I own
I desire pleasure
I drink it in
And when I
Wake from my
I cannot feel
Close by
I beg and I
But to my spot
I return
I no longer
Feel desire
For my LORD
I must
We must
Get down on
Our hands
And our knees
Dive in deep
To the water
See the filth?
That is you
That is me
Becoming one
With the river
In the name of
The Father
The Son
The Holy Spirit
We are free!
Do you feel?
The joy?
Do not return
To your spot
To Him only
