Proverbs: Trust in the Lord

“5Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3

Trust in the Lord

All ye peoples

Trust in the Lord

All you who seek good

Where has man gotten you?

What have you built up?

It all comes crashing down

It all gets twisted around

.

Trust in the Lord

All ye peoples

Trust in the Lord

All you who seek good

Where is the Lord

In your planning ways?

He’s there either way

He’s there

Glorify Him

.

Trust in the Lord

All ye peoples

Trust in the Lord

All you who seek good

Where does the road go?

Is it narrow or wide?

By His Light you will get through

By the Door you will get through

.

Trust in the Lord

With all your heart

And lean not on your

Own understanding

In all your ways

Acknowledge Him

And He will make your

Paths straight

“9In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” ~Proverbs 16

1Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 3“Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” 4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6“I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” ~Psalm 2

6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” ~John 14

12When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8

7Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” ~John 10

13“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” ~Matthew 7

24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” ~Matthew 7

Sermon on the Mount: Blindness

1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” ~Matthew 7

Each of us longs for it

To be taken by the hand

Led away like sheep.

The path is always shrouded in darkness—

Oh, if only someone would tell me

The direction I am to go!

~

Each of us has it

The pride we have that we

We are the center of this universe.

We take someone by the hand and say

“Follow me through this dark place

I’ve passed it before, I’ll lead you in the right way.”

~

In the end it is a long string of the blind leading blind

And none see the chasm—each fall down.

~

Measure up! Measure up!

Who is to blame?

That one drinks, another over thinks.

That one keeps to himself too much

The other controls not his tongue.

This one is too complying

And that one judges too much.

You are too full of anger to be regarded well

And I am too sensitive to be taken seriously.

And yet in the end who is to blame?

What measure can measure the wrongness of who we are?

I’m sure your fault outweighs my own—

This isn’t my fault.

~

Blind leads blind

Straight to the Judgment Seat

And the LORD opens His Book

And the LORD sees

All the failures matched up

In each of us—

What law have I not broken?

What have you not kept?

The LORD sees

The LORD measures

The LORD judges.

~

We will each receive what we have sown.

So sow what is right, brother.

Let me speak when I see you falling

And let you speak when you see it in me.

In the truth is the LORD pleased.

Let Him lead us in the straight and narrow way—

He alone, after all, can truly see.

~

Luke 6:37-42

37“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

39He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

41“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

1 John 5:16a

16If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.

1 Corinthians 5

12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked person from among you.”

John 8:7

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Romans 2:1

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

Romans 14:10

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

Romans 14:13

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

1 Corinthians 4:5

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

James 4:11

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.

Food for Thought: God Created

I’ve been reading slowly and comprehensively Genesis 1 ever since I got back from Urbana. While there, they taught us how to do an Inductive Bible study. First you read the passage and make observations, even the most simple. Then you ask about things that are confusing to you, and then you end with these two things: “What does this passage tell me about God?” and “How do I apply this to myself?” I was already familiar with this method of learning because my youth leader did this in Sunday School/Youth Group, but I felt compelled to do this more in my individual bible study time. I thought perhaps that I was moving through the first chapter much too slow, that each point of creation has the same message to tell, but I’m glad I am taking my time. Even if it is the same message essentially, it is good to be reminded over and over about who God is and what that means for me.

Today I read about Him creating the lights in the sky. “And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.’ And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning—the fourth day.” ~Genesis 1:14-19.

First I observed that the subject of the passage is light. He wants to make more light as a distinction between day and night, light and darkness. Something else I noticed was that part of their purpose was to be signs of sacred times; this was before the fall, so what were these sacred times? It seems to me that in forming the stars He already had the fall in mind. Also, these lights weren’t really needed before this; He had made day and night without the moon and sun, He had separated the land and the sea, and planted the vegetation on the earth. It seems to me that His purpose in putting them there was to create even more light.

All of this tells me a few things about God. 1. He is all knowing. 2. He is purposeful in His creating; nothing is done willy nilly or foolishly. And 3. God loves light more than darkness. He didn’t have to put lights in the night and it still would have been dark, still would have been night. But He didn’t desire that.

What does this tell me to apply to myself? First of all I can trust God to be God. He is the creator, He has a good and perfect plan, and so I can trust Him with all things. Secondly, I should be purposeful in the work of my hands, whether it be when I’m at work or when I am creating a document. I want people to read whatever I write and know there was a purpose behind it. And thirdly, I should desire the light more than the darkness; to put it plainly, I should choose the Spirit over my fleshly desires. God wants me to be a light in a dark world, He wants it for all His children. He doesn’t need us, but He wants us.

I hope you can say that you trust God. I hope that you are purposeful in whatever you do. I hope that you are choosing the Spirit, the Light, rather than the flesh and the world, the Darkness.

Have a blessed week!

~

14“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” ~Matthew 5

“31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. ” ~1 Corinthians 10

“16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” ~John 3

Sermon on the Mount: Dark Eyes, Black Heart

22“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” ~Matthew 6

Whatever

My eyes see

I desire it

All for me

And I reach out

To take hold of what I want

But there’s nothing there

There never was

.

Empty is life

Without the LORD

And blind are my eyes

Without Your Word

I battle always between

Flesh and Your Spirit

Take hold of me, LORD

Take hold of me

Today

.

I think on the wickedness

Of the world

And I wish that they would

Wash their hands

But murder and deceit

They aren’t muddying my skin

They come from my heart

Right now

They come from the world’s

Heart

What do we desire?

Is it good or bad?

Which is stronger?

Conscience or what you have?

No one’s looking

No one will ever know

But the LORD

He is watching

Fused to my soul

.

Empty is life

Without the LORD

And blind are my eyes

Without Your Word

I battle always between

Flesh and Your Spirit

Take hold of me, LORD

Take hold of me

Today

.

It’s dark in here!

I’m shivering!

It’s dark in here!

And I can’t get free

It’s dark in here!

With my heart

All alone.

God shine Your light

Inside of me

Let me see and desire You

My LORD

My God

Teach me Your Laws

My Light

My King

Today

~

“16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” ~Galatians 5

“Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.” ~Psalm 119:36

“17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” ~Revelation 3

‘20He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”’ ~Mark 7

“20Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. 21Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. 22Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, 3who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent. 24Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25Therefore the Lord’s anger burns against his people; his hand is raised and he strikes them down. The mountains shake, and the dead bodies are like refuse in the streets.” ~Isaiah 5

Monday Christmas: Reactions to His Light

‘3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

6“But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;

for out of you will come a ruler

who will shepherd my people Israel.”

7Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”’ ~Matthew 2

‘I will follow in the path

This Light does lead

Please tell me the place

Where I may honor Him

Worship Him

Forever more.’

.

‘What is this news

That comes to our ears?

Brought from Gentiles

Far far away?

We are pressed underneath

The Roman thumb

And they say a King is born today!

How can this be?

This cannot be!

What will become of us

If the Romans hear of it?’

.

‘We have studied the Scriptures

We know it through and through

Nothing has escaped our notice

We know everything it has to give

This King was foretold of

To be born in Bethlehem

So go and stop this thing

Do not let it remain.’

.

‘I am Herod

And I have been blessed

With a place of power

And now this threat has come

To tear down my tower

So I will squash it unawares

I will pretend to be an angel of light

But when given the chance

I will kill this king the Lord spoke of

This threat will not remain

This Light will be rendered meaningless.’

.

‘I will follow in the path

This Light does lead

I will go to this place,

Called Bethlehem,

Where I may honor Him

Worship Him

Forever more.’

“2The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” ~Isaiah 9

“9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” ~John 1

“19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” ~John 3

“5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” ~1 John 1

Monday Christmas: The Light Proclaims

I’ve decided to do my Christmas posts on Mondays, focusing on the Magi.  I hope it blesses you this season!

1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magia from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” ~Matthew 2

There is a light

High up in the Heavens

And I’ve seen something similar

Watched them a long time

But this is different

A different kind of light

A new message—

The King is born

Salvation has come!

.

I travel to meet Him

This Promised One

The One the stars speak of

That guide me to the place of promise

I go there to bow to Him

To give Him the richest gifts

Earth can give

Oh to gaze on His face!

To worship Him as King

As my Savior!

.

This star in the Heavens

Proclaims the Star of Salvation

This Light that has dawned on us

Tells of His crown of Light

I will follow in the path

This Light does lead

It will lead me to His side

Where I may honor Him

Worship Him

Forever more

~

“2The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” ~Isaiah 9

“1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” ~John 1

Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Isaiah 50:10

Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on their God.

Isaiah 60:19

The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.

Sermon on the Mount: Light of the World

14“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” ~Matthew 5

We children

Of the True Light

We cannot help

But shine, shine, shine

Shine out to all

His majestic glory

So shine, shine

Shine

.

It is true

That perhaps you

Could hide away

The light

Do you find

That you want to please

Men more than God?

As it is written

“Those who deny Me

Before men

I will deny

Before My Father.”

Do you think

You’ve denied Him?

Are you shivering?

.

You needn’t be afraid

If you are His

Child of Light

If you were not

You would disown Him

As it is

If you are faithless

He will remain faithful of you

For He cannot

Disown Himself

.

If you are His

And He is yours

You cannot lose

What you were given

You cannot forsake Him

Utterly

For He is faithful

Completely

And hasn’t lost a single one

He has received

.

So you will shine

Shine

And you cannot help but

Shine

Make every effort to

Shine

The LORD desires us to

Shine, shine

If He is for us

Who can be against us?

What can separate us?

So shine, shine

Shine in all things

Glorify Him in it all

And remember

And cling to it

His faithfulness

He shines on you

So child of Light

Shine, shine, shine

Shine

~

32“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” ~Matthew 10

“19This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” ~1 John 3

“11Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” ~2 Timothy 2

“35Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” ~John 6

“31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” ~Romans 8

“31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” ~1 Corinthians 10

Be Humble

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud

but shows favor to the humble.”a

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.” ~1 Peter 5:5b-11

Life

Isn’t about fame

It isn’t about fortune

Or getting love

My father and mother

Told me to share

To give

But as I get older

I’m needing more

I’m wanting more

And all the more I hear

The world around me

Say “It’s okay

To be selfish”

But when you try

You get punished

.

Lift your eyes

To sky

Fall down

On your knees

Humbleness

Is what pleases

The LORD

Stop listening to what

Surrounds you

Stop gripping at the knives

Inside you

And seek ye first

The kingdom

Of righteousness

Of the King

Of bliss

Of the King

Of truth

.

It’s true

I’m needy

But I can’t fill it

With what surrounds me

These games never end

These kisses never

Burn enough

And the fears that plague me

Never stop

Choking me

I try to run away and hide

But all I see is

Emptiness inside

And out

.

The LORD

He is your shield

The LORD

He is your strength

He knows you need

And He satisfies

He knows your heart

And He sanctifies

Be Holy

As He is

And bow down your heart

To the King

.

Hope in the Light

Of the Savior

He is the Light

He is salvation

Seek His Light

Do not fear the darkness

Oh LORD be our light

Save us from the darkness

Lord to You I surrender

Oh surrender

To the King

.

“33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~Matthew 6

“5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” ~1 John 1

Food For Thought: His Light Leads

2I will go before you and will level the mountainsa ; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.  3I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” ~Isaiah 45

I was driving home this past week.  I was very familiar with the road, how it wound around.  The sky was full of clouds with patches of blue poking through sporadically.  I was singing away as the cd in the car played, and all of a sudden I noticed it: the light.  On the ground a ray of light was spreading, making my path fill with light before I reached it instead of grey.  I felt a thrill of happiness and thought to myself, “God is going before me.”

I recently got a job for the first time– just last week, actually.  I have always taken big steps rather slowly.  I didn’t go to college after high school and opted to stay home.  I’ve been at home for the past four years.  I didn’t get my driver’s license until last year because I was so nervous of taking the test.  And then I knew that God wanted me to find a job.  I wasn’t glorifying Him by staying home all day, it was much too easy to be lazy all the time.  But I was scared.  I was afraid of taking that next step.

The first time I went out to apply, I didn’t get anything, but it bolstered my confidence a little.  Then a month ago I saw that a place was hiring.  I decided to just apply.  For some reason, I kept thinking, “God, if I were to choose, I would choose this place.  But it’s up to You.”  I didn’t hear anything for weeks and thought I’d been passed over once again.

Weeks later they called me.  They wanted an interview.  My first interview!  I was so nervous.  I’d go between praying for God to help me and feeling confident to worrying if I had the answers they wanted and if I had the right clothes for an interview.  The day came and it went not at all how I expected.  It was less of an interview and more of a test.  I did my best, left, and then worried that maybe I had done the test wrong.  I shared this with my mom and she reminded me, “All you can do is your best.  It’s up to God whether or not you’ll get the job anyway.”  What God opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.

I was in shock when I got the call that I’d been hired.  Then euphoria filled me and I was giddy the rest of the day.  And I knew, it was only by God’s grace, only His provision, that had given this to me.  It was nothing in me, only Him.  And now I had been given new responsibility.  I had taken the next step.

That’s what I thought of as I watched the light go before me.  There were patches where there was only grey, but the light of the sun always returned to guide me, to reassure me that it was still there.  And that’s how God is.  He goes before us.  There may be a time when we cannot see Him, but He’s still there and will be seen again.  He is active in our lives and is preparing the path for us and preparing us for the path of His choosing.  So,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3:5-6

Have a blessed weekend!

My Voice: If There Was Glory……

If there was Glory
Shining through my eyes
As I looked around
As I looked on you
Wouldn’t I want
To go on out
And look on all
I could possibly see?
Lord, let Your light shine
Let Your Glory shine
Through me

If there was Glory
Shining through my words
As I spoke kindness
As I spoke love
Wouldn’t I want
To go on out
And speak to all
I could possibly meet?
Lord, let Your light shine
Let Your Glory shine
Through me

If there was Glory
Shining through my fingers
As I worked to improve
As I worked to help
Wouldn’t I want
To go on out
And give help to all
I could possibly assist?
Lord, let Your light shine
Let Your Glory shine
Through me

Lord, let Your light shine
Let Your Glory shine
For all to see
And know it is not me

’14“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

’13“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

‘3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.’ ~Matthew 5:14-16, 13, 3-12
