Meditation on Christmas

“8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” ~Luke 2

This Christmas time
We remember
The birth of a boy
Sent down from Heaven
To Earth
A Heavenly Body
Become an Earthly Body
His Immortal Being
Become Mortal Flesh

And He came
Who knew no sin
To become sin on our behalf
And He came
Who knew no death
To suffer death on our behalf

And He did it for His love
For He loved us who deserve none of it
So that we who know sin
May be free of the slavery of sin
So that we who know death
May live with Him eternally
Death no longer holds sting for us His children
So that we who are mortal
May live eternal life
So that we who know earth
May live in Heaven with Christ

Oh for that day,
When all things of this world
Melt away
No more sin
No more pain
No more death
All that is worth having—
It is there!
All that is worth desiring—
It is there!
All that is beautiful—
It is there!
And oh so much more!
For we have all things good
In Christ our Savior!
In Christ our King!

New
I want something new
Not the same old
Same old
Not the same thing to do
Over and over
Tired of reading the Word
Only to sleep
And have to start again
Why should I pray again
If I have nothing new to say?
All over again
The same old
Same old
New
I want something new

But then the new comes
And with it chaos
Nothing steady
Nothing sure
Nothing real
Anymore
But then the new comes
And I feel numbed
I feel lost
I feel afraid
I bathe in this new lotion
And smell like a sewer
Because I didn’t want the old
Same old
New
I wanted something new

Test me Father
Know my heart
Try me and know my mind
Hear this voice of mine
Oh so small and insignificant
Know what unsatisfied feelings
I harbor deep within

New
When I forsook the new
And returned my face to the old
Same old
I tasted again the sweetness
Of the Word
And felt the joy it brought
When I returned to the same old
Same old
I found a sure foundation
I found You
And realized You had never
Never left my side
Though I am faithless
You are ever faithful
And for that I praise Your Name
He is my LORD
The One and Only GOD!
Praise Him!

“8Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
11Here is a trustworthy saying:

If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.” ~ 2 Timothy 2

“22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” ~James 1

My light
