Sermon on the Mount: Remember Love

Christ Love is Real.  So Really Love.

7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” ~Matthew 7

Do not forget what has been taught you

The goodness of the LORD is upon you

The strength of His love overpowers you

Do not forget what has been done for you

.

A prayer in the heart

The Lord is infinitely good

A prayer on the tongue

He plans the good of His people,

The glory of His Name

Let it be

He puts to justice murderers

And extends the arm of love

He puts to justice the thief

And gives abundantly to those He loves

Bring it out

You need to speak it

He tears down the strongholds of the proud

And builds up the fortress of the humble

You need to ask it

The Good Lord does not spurn the request

But provides what is needed, and very much more!

Seek ,seek

Seek it

The Lord knows what is good and right

It is time to knock, knock

At the door

He overflows with righteousness

.

And from this remember

He does the same for your sisters and brothers

And from this remember

We all were like our lost sisters and brothers

As God extended the hand of mercy

So extend your hand

As God extended the arm of love

So extend your arm

Obey Him out of deep love for Him

As He deeply loves you

Obedience to Him is love of others

So deeply love them

Remember what has been taught you

So deeply love

~

9“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” ~John 15

Matthew 5:17

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Matthew 22:40

All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Romans 13:8

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:10

Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Galatians 5:14

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.

James 2:8

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.

Sermon on the Mount: Abundant

A prayer in the heart

Heart beats heart beat

A prayer on the tongue

Let it be

Bring it out

You need to speak it

You need to ask it

Seek ,seek

Seek it

It is time to knock, knock

At the door

.

A man is desperately wicked

Planning schemes of harm in his heart

He murders daily

With the weapon of hate

He steals constantly

With the lust of his eyes

He lies in wait

And tears down with his tongue

And yet his son comes to him

And asks for bread

And wicked man does not give him nothing

But provides what is needed

Wicked man knows even so

What is good

He knows it deep down

.

The Lord is infinitely good

He plans the good of His people,

The glory of His Name

He puts to justice murderers

And extends the arm of love

He puts to justice the thief

And gives abundantly to those He loves

He tears down the strongholds of the proud

And builds up the fortress of the humble

And when His own asks for bread

The Good Lord does not spurn the request

But provides what is needed, and very much more!

The Lord knows what is good and right

He overflows with righteousness

.

At the door

It is time to knock, knock

Seek it,

Seek, seek

You need to ask it

You need to speak it

Bring it out

Let it be

A prayer on the tongue

Heart beats heart beat

A prayer in the heart

Luke 11:13

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Romans 8:32

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Psalm 84:11

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Isaiah 63:7

I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us– yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses.

Sermon on the Mount: Wisdom

“6Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” ~Matthew 7

You who are wise

Lift up my head

You who see clearly

Speak out

From your discipline

I will find the straight way

Rebuke me now, I pray

So I may see your wisdom

In the day

.

Precious

Holy

Are the pearls

You give me

.

If I see the foolish man

Let me not speak as he does

If I see the foolish man

Let me not do as he does

Foolishness is an epidemic

Let it flee

From me

.

“Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him.”

.

If I am faced

With the foolish

Should I speak the truth?

Will he hear

The words I am speaking?

Or will he tear me down

Down?

Will he tear me down?

.

“Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.”

“Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words.”

.

If I am shown

The foolish within me

I will consider you as sacred

If I am shown

The foolish within me

I will consider it as fine gold

.

“Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is the rebuke of a wise judge to a listening ear.”

“Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.”

.

If I find the foolish within me

May I consider your ways

If I find the foolish within me

May I love your words

Transform me

Correct me

From wisdom’s tree

I will feed

.

“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.

She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.

Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.”

Sermon on the Mount: In the Eye

1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” ~Matthew 7

Rubbing at your eye

Something hurting there

You look in the mirror

All you can see is red

Pink and bleary

Nothing much to see when you stare

Something is hurting there

In your eye

.

Judging by what I can see

You’ve got a speck of

A little bit of me

I judged you often for your weakness

And my plank poked you right

Right in the eye

Your faith is different than mine

I’m sorry I irritated you

With that speck

Judgment is clouding you, I see

.

Christ came you know

To die for you

Die for me

To make us the Lord’s

We’re servants, you and me

So why do we judge one another?

We should be in unity

Let all we do bring thanks

We should be in harmony

Not judging what is temporal

In you and me

We are the Lord’s

By the Savior

Of you and me

That’s why Christ came you know

~

Romans 14 and part of 15(emphasis added):

1Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

5One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11It is written:

“ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,

‘every knee will bow before me;

every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ”

12So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

13Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. 14I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. 15If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died. 16Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. 17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.

22So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

1We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. 3For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

5May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

Sermon on the Mount: Blindness

Each of us longs for it

To be taken by the hand

Led away like sheep.

The path is always shrouded in darkness—

Oh, if only someone would tell me

The direction I am to go!

~

Each of us has it

The pride we have that we

We are the center of this universe.

We take someone by the hand and say

“Follow me through this dark place

I’ve passed it before, I’ll lead you in the right way.”

~

In the end it is a long string of the blind leading blind

And none see the chasm—each fall down.

~

Measure up! Measure up!

Who is to blame?

That one drinks, another over thinks.

That one keeps to himself too much

The other controls not his tongue.

This one is too complying

And that one judges too much.

You are too full of anger to be regarded well

And I am too sensitive to be taken seriously.

And yet in the end who is to blame?

What measure can measure the wrongness of who we are?

I’m sure your fault outweighs my own—

This isn’t my fault.

~

Blind leads blind

Straight to the Judgment Seat

And the LORD opens His Book

And the LORD sees

All the failures matched up

In each of us—

What law have I not broken?

What have you not kept?

The LORD sees

The LORD measures

The LORD judges.

~

We will each receive what we have sown.

So sow what is right, brother.

Let me speak when I see you falling

And let you speak when you see it in me.

In the truth is the LORD pleased.

Let Him lead us in the straight and narrow way—

He alone, after all, can truly see.

~

Luke 6:37-42

37“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

39He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

41“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

1 John 5:16a

16If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.

1 Corinthians 5

12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked person from among you.”

John 8:7

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Romans 2:1

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

Romans 14:10

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

Romans 14:13

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

1 Corinthians 4:5

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

James 4:11

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.

Sermon on the Mount: Two Masters

24“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” ~Matthew 6

What good

Can it do

To gather up

Gold and jewels

All around me?

Diamonds is said

To be a girl’s best friend

But what good could it

Ever do me?

Can it purify my heart?

Can it listen when I pray?

Can it speak back

When I am lost

And afraid?

No indeed

No

No

.

I offer up

This gold cup

To my God

I offer up

I offer it up

To my King

He knows what is best

He gave it to me

To use properly

So help me God

Use it to Your

Glory

.

No one could ever

Glorify God

And gratify flesh

No one could ever

Be friends with God

And friends with the world

To be in love

With Christ

Is to sacrifice myself

To be in love

With the world

Is to lift up

Myself

Is to make me

The only

Important thing

Seems like

There’s a contradiction here

There can’t be two

Two masters I worship

.

I offer up

To the LORD

Myself

As a living sacrifice

I offer up

To the LORD

Myself

All my desires

He’s given them to me

To use wisely

So help me God

Use them

To Your

Glory

~

“16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whateverc you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” ~Galatians 5

“1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” ~Romans 12

Romans 6:20

“When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.”

Galatians 1:10

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

James 4:4

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

1 Kings 18:21

‘Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.’

2 Kings 17:41

“Even while these people were worshiping the LORD, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did.”

Luke 16:9-12

“9I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. 10Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”

Sermon on the Mount: Dark Eyes, Black Heart

22“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” ~Matthew 6

Whatever

My eyes see

I desire it

All for me

And I reach out

To take hold of what I want

But there’s nothing there

There never was

.

Empty is life

Without the LORD

And blind are my eyes

Without Your Word

I battle always between

Flesh and Your Spirit

Take hold of me, LORD

Take hold of me

Today

.

I think on the wickedness

Of the world

And I wish that they would

Wash their hands

But murder and deceit

They aren’t muddying my skin

They come from my heart

Right now

They come from the world’s

Heart

What do we desire?

Is it good or bad?

Which is stronger?

Conscience or what you have?

No one’s looking

No one will ever know

But the LORD

He is watching

Fused to my soul

.

Empty is life

Without the LORD

And blind are my eyes

Without Your Word

I battle always between

Flesh and Your Spirit

Take hold of me, LORD

Take hold of me

Today

It’s dark in here!

I’m shivering!

It’s dark in here!

And I can’t get free

It’s dark in here!

With my heart

All alone.

God shine Your light

Inside of me

Let me see and desire You

My LORD

My God

Teach me Your Laws

My Light

“16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” ~Galatians 5

“Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.” ~Psalm 119:36

“17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” ~Revelation 3

‘20He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”’ ~Mark 7

“20Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. 21Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. 22Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, 3who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent. 24Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25Therefore the Lord’s anger burns against his people; his hand is raised and he strikes them down. The mountains shake, and the dead bodies are like refuse in the streets.” ~Isaiah 5

Sermon on the Mount: God’s Way

9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ ~Matthew 6

Come down

Your kingdom

From the clouds

In Heaven

Rain down

Your Will

From the clouds

Like mana

.

Feed these hungry mouths

That cry out to You

Hear our faltering words

That never seem to end

Feed these tired souls

That thirst and hunger daily

Hear our cracked voices

Change us to be as You are

Lord

As You are

.

Oh to see Your kingdom

Reigning supreme on the earth

All is righteousness

And goodness and truth

Oh to stand before Your throne

To hear Your very words

All is righteousness

And goodness and truth

Here is Your kingdom

Just a shadow in me through Christ

Reigning supreme

Despite my battle of strife

Your Spirit is in me

I’m a temple of Your choice

I read Your very words

In the Word You provide

.

You have fed these hungry mouths

Even when we cry not for You

You hear our faltering words

Even when they don’t praise You

You are our everything

Even when we are weary of life

You hear our cracked voices

And help us obey You

Obey You

.

Christ has saved!

Christ is Lord over all

Spirit has come!

Spirit is in His temple

Father of all!

Father has transformed us

You transformed us

A new creation

You changed us

To You we lift our praise!

And I’ll ever say

Lord God

Your kingdom come

Your will be done

Here on this earth

As it ever is in heaven

And feed us Lord

As You always do

From heaven

Your good will be done

Your kingdom come

We will praise You

I will praise You

~

Psalm 103:20

“Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.”

“1Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” ~Revelation 21

“19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” ~1 Corinthians 6

2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

“4For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

“6Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7For we live by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it…

“17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5

Sermon on the Mount: God’s Holiness in Prayer

9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ ~Matthew 6

You ought to pray

Every day

You ought to say

‘Father, hollowed be Your name!’

And when you offer up

These words of praise

These words of longing

Live it out in your own life

Live out the glory of Christ

Oh, LORD, may You holy name be

Considered holy

Today.

.

When you pray

Today

Remember the holiness of the LORD

How great His works

How mighty His wonders!

Remember the holiness of the LORD

Today

When you pray

.

The LORD

He will be honored

The LORD

He will be glorified

Let not

Your words turn to slander

Let not

Your mind be seared

Offer up what is pleasing

Lest the LORD be driven to defend

His honor

Offer up in your heart what is pleasing

Lest it drive unbelievers to profanity

Let it not be said of us

Let it not be said of us

.

Who is like the LORD?

Who can compare to His faithfulness?

Every promise He ever made

He has kept.

His honor He will defend

His love He lavishes on us.

His kingdom lasts forever

As He is not shaken

Neither shall we be then.

.

When you pray

Today

Remember the holiness of the LORD

How great His works

The LORD

He will be honored

The LORD

He will be glorified

How mighty His wonders!

Remember the holiness of the LORD

Today

Consider Him holy

The LORD, His name be

So live out the glory of Christ His Son!

Live it out in your own life

These words of longing

These words of praise

‘Father, hallowed be Your name!”

You ought to say it

Every day

You ought to pray

.

“6For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, 7a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? 8 O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you?” ~Psalm 89

“17Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; 18if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ~Romans 2

Matthew 23:9

“And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.”

“1Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command. 2So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. 3Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said:“ ‘Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’ ” Aaron remained silent.” ~Leviticus 10

James 4:11

“Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.”

Psalm 101:5

“Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.”

“28Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.” ~Hebrews 12

Sermon on the Mount: Pray Humbly

“7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9“This, then, is how you should pray:

“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’~Matthew 6

Sometimes I think

I can get a drink

From the pool of self appeasement.

Lord God I want

I want, I want

And I won’t shutup

Til I’ve received it.

.

Oh dance around a flame!

Cut open flesh!

Demand God a sacrifice

Of His own!

Babble all day long

Babble all you want

God doesn’t hear you.

.

Humble your words

Ask for His Name glorified—

Isn’t He God

And you just a man?

Humble your heart

Ask for His will be done—

Trust Him

He’ll give all you need

.

All seem impossible!

Starving in the street!

Will I be clothed today?

Will He hear my cries and groaning?

Open up your mouth

Cry to the LORD for mercy!

He’s your Father

He loves you so.

.

Look at the birds

Always seeking

Do they ever find

The worm for their bellies?

And if God is so faithful

To provide for such as these

Won’t He be pleased

To give you bread instead of stone?

Look at the flowers

Of the field

They just soak up the sun

And are beautiful

How were they clothed thus?

How could they create this?

And if the LORD clothes His small creations

How much more will He clothe you

Instead of biting you with a snake?

.

The LORD will send you rain

In the drought.

The LORD will send you warmth

In the cold.

The LORD will send you food

In starvation.

Seek His kingdom first

Seek His will be done.

He will grant you the peace

And understanding

Of His Spirit come.

Seek, find, knock.

He’ll not give you a rock.

Seek, find, knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Oh knock on the door

With a humble heart.

~

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!… 27“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” ~Luke 12

9“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” ~Luke 11

‘22Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”

Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”…

Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.

27At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention…

36At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

38Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

39When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”’~1 Kings 18
