Proverbs: Wise Confidence

“21My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; 22they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.” ~Proverbs 3

Do I purposefully clothe myself

With wisdom and understanding?

Do I never let sound judgment

Or discretion leave my side

For a moment?

So many times

I did not want to bother with it

To take the time

To talk to God

Or do what I knew was right

What harm could it do?

What real damage would be done?

So I went my own way

And thought myself the better for it

There was no Wisdom to light my path

There was no understanding to mark my way

And so I sank and sank into the foolish sand

Until I was stuck and couldn’t see

I cried out to God to save me

So many times I read the Word

And I wonder if it is true

It says I will not stumble

The Lord preserves me,

I will not fall

And yet I feel I tumble every day

And yet I see so many around

In constant pain

And I wonder, is it true?

Perhaps in this one thing I will cease to believe

Perhaps just in this one thing

But in this I lack judgment

In this I lose my grasp on discretion

If I let go of this truth,

Then all other truths disappear with it

If God is a liar in one space

Then He is a liar through and through

And yet even in this He will reveal it to me

He will help me to see

That yes there is pain

And yes there is failure

But for His children all is worked out for good

They become more like Christ in suffering

And they will never fall away

He preserves their life in the last day

And in that we can all rejoice!

So lie down and sleep well

The Lord is your guardian

So walk through life

Be not dismayed

The Lord directs your steps

Lord God

Help me to wear Wisdom, Understanding,

Sound Judgment, and Discretion

Help me to put them on as armor

Against the flaming arrows of Satan

For when I ignore You

I fail and fall

But with You I can stand against them all

Psalm 37

23The Lord makes firm the steps

of the one who delights in him;

24though he may stumble, he will not fall,

for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

25I was young and now I am old,

yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken

or their children begging bread.

Job 4:6

“Is not your fear of God your confidence, And the integrity of your ways your hope?

1 Peter 3:14

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their intimidation; do not be shaken.”

“28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whoi have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” ~Romans 8

Psalm 91:5

You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;

Psalm 3:5

I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me.

24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” ~Matthew 7

Psalm 119:165

Those who love Your law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble.

Deuteronomy 32:45-47

When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

“10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” ~Ephesians 6

Hope to the Suffering

Inspired from reading Psalm 102

The afflicted one

Cries out for mercy

He feels all alone

He burns to smoke

Never again remembered

He weeps

But no one hears

The scorned one

Cries out for mercy

He feels rejected by men

He is cursed on

Every tongue on every side

He weeps

But no one turns an eye

The dying one

Cries out for mercy

He feels so abandoned

He is broken and spent

Never to be loved again

He weeps

But no one cares

“Oh, God!

Why don’t You hear me?

I feel lost and afraid!

I need from You some mercy

I’m in such agony

Do You love me?

Do You care?”

1. You are not alone

1 Peter 1: 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

2. Our Savior suffered too

Isaiah 53: 3He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

4Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

3. We are being conformed to Christ’s likeness

Romans 8: 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whoi have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

4. There is coming an end

Revelation 21: 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

My Faith

Is my faith
As pure as
Refined gold?
Did it come to me
Perfect and clean?
Can I stand here
With nothing to fear
Not even a
Pinprick of pain?

Before I stood
Before the throne
I was an ugly sinner
But standing there
Jesus rolled away the stone
He clothed me in prayer
His prayer
In the throne room now
I stand with Him
I am clean and pure
And righteous
For God sees Christ
On me

But I’m still a sinner
Still wandering the earth
I still falter
I still have so much to learn
And when pain comes
In whatever form
How could I ever say
“Lord, I thought You were good!”?
He is good
He is good

Am I willing to realize
I’m not perfect?
Won’t be until He returns
Am I willing to be refined
No matter the circumstances
No matter the pain?
I know Jesus promised suffering
But I don’t want it for me
I’ll believe anything else He says
Just let me lead
A painless life

Thank God
He loves me too much
To let me stay unsanctified
He will wash me clean
He will continue to make me
A new creation
I am a new creation
The work He began in me
He will bring to completion
I am a new creation
A new creation
Refine my faith
Make me a new creation

“3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” ~ 1 Peter 1

“16So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:a The old has gone, the new is here! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21God made him who had no sin to be sinb for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” ~2 Corinthians 5
